Who you’re dealing with

At MK Creative it’s me, myself and I at the helm, weaving crafty sentences together and capturing images that make you sound and look like the bees knees.

I started my writing career as a fresh faced uni graduate with a degree in journalism and photography and jetted off to the UK with big bold plans to become the next Annie Leibovitz or Ernest Hemmingway, I didn’t mind which. Instead I landed a job selling advertising space for a newspaper in Bristol and Bath. But with all the optimism of youth, I was not deterred. I hatched a cunning plan to get chummy with the editors and journos and perhaps not so casually, slid compelling stories on their desks for consideration. Cut a long story short (which I hate to do, but word count here dictates it so) persistence paid off and I found myself in charge of editing three of the newspaper’s supplementary titles —  lifestyle, wedding and education magazines. This later grew to seven. I went through quite a few candles burning the midnight oil to reach all those deadlines, but oh how I loved the rush of seeing those magazines fresh off the press, no matter how thin and pale they looked next to the glossy pages of Vogue, they were my babies. I nurtured every page and learnt to write about all things weddings and parenting (long before I got married or had kids) as well as business news, restaurant and hotel reviews (it was a tough gig sometimes!).

But after four years in the UK, the lure of sunshine, blue skies and the white sands of Perth beaches became too much to bear. So I came back with a pommy husband and commenced a career as a communications manager and editor. Fast forward several years and two kids later, I turned my other great passion — photography, into a successful wedding and family photography business for 12 years.

Which brings me to now, as the founder of MK Creative, where I combine my two great passions and years of experience in both writing and photography to create magical content for my clients. I’m not an agency so it will always be me as your wordsmith or content creator at your service. My only colleagues are the dog and the cat so I don’t spend hours in meetings charging you for discussions that could have been an email (the quadrupeds don’t care much for idle chatter). I work fast, efficiently and stop the clock when I’m not doing work for you, as I like to make every minute count, whether that’s writing, researching or creating.

But that’s enough about me. What about you? Does your business need some sprucing of content? Let’s chat about it!
